Horseback Riding - Full Day Tour

It is one of the most extensive tours offered by our amazing partners at Hov Gård, home to nearly 50 icelandic horses descending from the ancient vikings' horses. We meet up by the stable where you get introduced to your horse and equipped for the full day tour of exploration and fun on the horseback. As the tour starts, we follow a historical road that is believed to have been used by the ancient vikings. Its location up on a ridge provides an amazing 360 degree view over the mountains and the nature reserve of Gimsøyamyrene. During the ride, you will get a chance to try the different gates of the icelandic horse, and you also get to ride along Arctic white sandy beaches – a dream for many nature loving riders. 

The area where we ride is full of remainings from the viking age, like an old amphitheater, and what was once upon a time buildings and boat houses. We cross Gimsøymyrene with its beautiful mire area with typical vegetation for this part of Norway. It is home to various wild birds that can be spotted along the way. The entire ride is a bless for all senses, with the stunning natural surroundings and the fresh breeze from the ocean nearby. 

We keep on riding all the way to the hidden valley of Vinjedalen. In this magical landscape, we stop and let the horses graze while we cook together and enjoy some delicious lunch around the campfire.
