This Viking Express Tour adventure starts at Hov Gård, our amazing partners running tours and activities with nearly 50 icelandic horses. We will meet up by the stable where you get introduced to your horse and equipped for the tour. We will then ride past the an old viking amfitheater, across the nearby golf course and towards the old shoreline and the Gimsøymyrene nature reserve. The path that we follow was once the old beach side, and we will ride along a road that is believed to have been used by the ancient vikings. The location up on a ridge provides an amazing 360 degree view over the mountains and the nature reserve. During this tour, you will get the chance to ride fast and try the typical tolt of the icelandic horses.
The Gimsøymyrene nature reserve is a beautiful mire area with typical vegetation for this part of Norway. It is home to various wild birds that can be spotted along the ride. The entire ride is a bless for all senses, with the stunning natural surroundings and the fresh breeze from the ocean nearby. By the end of the Viking trail, we make a stop at an old settlement with remains from six houses that dates from the period 195 BC. to 680 AD. Here, we will have have a short break before we return. Back at Hov, we will also have a look at the remains of some viking boat houses, and visit the white sandy beach before the tour ends at the stable.
Please note that this tour is for experienced riders who enjoy going a bit faster. If you know that you prefer to a longer, slightly slower ride, we recommend the regular Horseback Viking Tour.
