If you have ever dreamed of horseback riding in magical nature, then this tour is for you! It's operated by our amazing partners at Hov Gård, with nearly 50 Icelandic horses, descendants of the horses of Viking Age Norway. We start by the stable where you get to meet the horse that you'll ride and get ready for the tour. No previous experience is needed – you will be in good and trustworthy hands throughout the entire tour, regardless of what level you are at.
The tour goes along a nearby white sandy beach, through an amphitheater and what is believed to be an old place of sacrifice from the Viking Age: 'Hovet'. As we continue, we'll also pass the remains of historical boat houses used by the Vikings during voyages, some Nordic-style lodges and stunning cliffs with marvelous views over the outside of Gimsøya. The important impact of the local fishing industry will also be sensed as we ride through the lovely fishing harbor of Hovsund and see where the traditional stockfish is made.
